ARTIST STATEMENT

Facial structures depict emotions and life experience and like a fingerprint are unique to each individual. My work revolves around my fascination with the portrait, capturing not only expressions in the moment but also what lies beneath the surface.

The 12” X 12” format creates an intimate space for the viewer to study and interpret the emotions of my subjects. Perhaps what is most fascinating the ‘beneath-the-surface’ nature of one’s own self that can be laid bare in a portrait. In the end the image in the painting represents us all.
